Rockmount Golf Club celebrates 20 years of successful golf and catering
Rockmount Golf Club, located less than ten miles from Lisburn city centre has reached adulthood at twenty years of age.
The parkland course on Drumalig Road, Carryduff was the dream of joint proprietors and avid golfers Robert and Diane Patterson.
The course and club house were opened on May 8 1995 by European tour professionals Darren Clarke and Raymond Burns, television sports presenter Mark Robson and joint proprietor Robert Patterson.
They played a four-ball exhibition match for over 1000 invited guests.
Darren playing with Robert beat Raymond playing with Mark 2&1; with Darren setting the course record at 72 on his first attempt to play the course.
After an entertaining spectacle over the eighteen holes, Darren Clarke formerly declared the course and clubhouse open.
Mark Robson then completed a question and answer session with Darren and Raymond before a charity auction raised in excess of £5000 divided between Saintfield Cancer Research and the Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke Association.
In September 2013 Darren Clarke returned to host his Charity Golf Classic.
The course and facilities are held in high esteem by the Ulster Branch GUI who has honoured the club with hosting such events as the Junior Cup, Barton Shield, Jimmy Bruen Shield, Pierce Purcell Shield and the Irish Mixed Foursomes.
It has also hosted the Ulster under-15 Boys Championship for three years between 2011 and 2013.
The modern club house is strategically placed with unobstructed views of the ninth and 18th greens.
During the clubs short history the clubhouse has been extended twice to improve the facilities for all.
The restaurant, member’s area and bar can comfortably accommodate over 250 at any time with private function rooms also available.
Since opening the restaurant has won awards including ‘Gate to Plate’, ‘Great Taste Award Winners’, ‘Best Eating Establishments Lisburn City’ and a ‘Lisburn City Council Best Restaurant’ award.
As the club is jointly owned by husband and wife Robert and Diane it has always been a club where Ladies and Gents share equal rights; such as playing on a Saturday.
Rockmount Golf Club is renowned for its welcoming, friendly and relaxed atmosphere; the proprietors, staff and committees strive for continued success both on the course and in the clubhouse.
