Second out was Gents Captain Paul Banford and a past captain Peter O’Hara. This match was even closer and again the Spa pair prevailed and won by one hole.

The third pair was Bob Jellie and Danny Montgomery. The tone of this match was set on the first when Michael Graham drove off the first with a rescue club and nearly reached the green. Michael’s long accurate hitting was to be admired even by the Rockmount players and was an experience Bob and Danny did not cope with, losing by six holes.

The final pair was Henry Moore and Colin Childs, playing against Keith Murphy and Eugene Treacy.

Keith, straight as an arrow, drove through the first green. Not fazed, Colin drove onto the green. Henry says it went to twelve feet but Colin claims it was only four.

Eugene chipped in for his eagle two and Henry knocked in the putt to share the first hole. The second was equally as interesting, both pairs had birdie putts but Keith was the only one successful. The third was won with a par again by Keith and Eugene.

Henry and Colin were three down after three and were one under par for those three holes. However, the duo persevered and turned the deficit into a two hole win.

The match was in Rockmount’s favour heading in to the second leg.

Holt Shield

Team Captain Barry Douds took his team to Castlereagh Hills and claimed an impressive win.

Out first was Andy Gregge. The match ebbed and flowed until the spoils were shared on the 18th green. Both Mark Wynn and James Hume won their matches two up.

Conor Drumond made it three points when he holed a tricky downhill putt for a half-match.

Darren McClure didn’t let the team down. Playing last, Darren won three and one making the overall score 4-1 and gave the Rockmount team victory.

Junior Cowdy

William Blyth took his Junior Cowdy team to Banbridge.

First out, Russell Jamison and Davy Stronge lost by just one hole. Second pairing Sean Lawell and Fergus McCartney then their match.

Colin Paul and Robert Burns along with Alex Thompson and Michael Harrison both won one up to give the Rockmount team a 2.5-1.5 advantage going into the home match.
