In the top and deciding match, Randal Kernaghan and Andrew Parr were one down playing the final hole.

Despite the tension, Randal’s drive sailed down the middle of the fairway while Ballycastle’s Dessie Nevin drove into the light rough on the right. Andrew’s pitch ran to the back of the green but Stuart Nevin missed the green on the left.

Ballycastle’s third shot ran through the green and they failed to hole the par putt. Randal left his putt beside the hole to square the match.

At this stage, it was obvious that both teams were going to win two matches. The top match proceeded to the tie hole.

It was halved in par as was the second. Andrew cut his drive at the third and watched the Ballycastle player mishit his tee shot. Randal, an experienced Ulster Cup player, hit Lisburn’s second shot out to the right onto another fairway. Andrew found the green and Ballycastle eventually reached the green in four. After studying the putt for some time, Randal putted stone dead to win the match and put Lisburn into the next round.

Results of other matches (Lisburn names first); Kyle Patton & Brian Houston beat Harry Sheehan & Paul Taggart four and two. Aaron Marshall & David McCallister beat Owen McCluskey & Charlie McHenry three and two. Mark Jamieson & Josh Robinson lost to William Boyd & Stephen McGarry two and one. Chris Budd & Joe Gatt lost to Damien McSorley & Nigel Nevin two and one.
