Peter clinches fine win in glorious conditions at Lambeg Golf Club

In glorious weather and the course in excellent condition, it was obvious there would be high scores returned. Peter scored two other pars at 10 and 13 but a brilliant birdie at the 11th forced the back nine score up to an impressive 23pts.The front nine of 21pts was also very impressive and included six pars to give him a final total of 44pts.

Long time member, Tom Logan (23) was the unfortunate player to lose out on the count-back after he also scored 44 pts. The front nine was fairly steady and included three pars and only one double bogey to give him 22 pts at the turn. In the back nine Tom got off to a brilliant start hitting three pars in a row at 12, 13 and 14 but the dreaded index one 15th has ruined another good card and probably cost Tom the winners spot when he returned a “no score”.

Third place was won by Colin Loughins (13) with 43 pts in a round that never had worse than a five. The front nine included 5 pars but the back nine was even better with no less than 7 pars. Colin has been fairly consistant this year and has been in and around the top three fairly regularly and it will surely not be long before he takes a winning spot. Best Gross was won by Alan Crockard with 67, one over par. Next week’s competition is sponsored by Laganview Driving Range. The Wednesday Hat was won by Mike English with 39 pts. The Ulster-Cup team travelled to Bushfoot and will have a tough return match at Aberdelghy next Sunday after being beaten 5 1/2 - 1 1/2. Chris Brown was the only winner with Michael Pollins picking up the 1/2. The Ulster Fourball team will have an even tougher battle after being beaten 4 1/2 -1/2 at Clones. Aidan Daly and Mark Williamson secured the vital half going 1 up at the seventeenth after being two down at one stage. The return match is on Saturday.
