Ivan returns the best score to win the Bell Trophy at Dunmurry GC

Some 205 competitors took to Dunmurry Golf Club on Saturday May 30, in the Bell Trophy with conditions a little more favourable than the previous Saturday.

This week the first five prize winners all teed-off between 11 and 12 o’clock with Ivan O’Rorke playing off 14 returning the best scored of the day, 43 points to win the Bell Trophy by two.

Ivan had a steady first nine picking up pars at the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th for 20 points. He then proceeded to par the next five holes and further pars at the 16th and 18th gave him 23 points on the back nine and victory.

Second place Chris McGaw playing off 9, had a superb front nine of one under 34 for 24 points.

He birdied the 1st and 7th hole, dropped a shot at the par five 4th and had pars at the other six holes.

Chris looked well on the way to victory after birdies at the 12th and 14th for 36 points with four holes to go, however a poor finish saw his only pick up five more points over the final four hole for 41 points, enough to claim second spot.

Third spot went to Simon Doherty (12) who recorded 20 points on each nine.

Simon picked up five pars on the front nine, while on the back nine birdies at the 12th and the final hole were the highlights of another 20 points.

In fourth place Frankie Watterson (24), used his shots well to play to his handicap on the front nine for 18 points, and a strong finish saw his pick up 12 points over the last four holes for a back nine of 21 points and 39 points overall.

John Berry (18) also on 39 points lost out to Frankie on the back nine.

John recorded 18 points on the front nine the highlight being a birdie 3 on the 2nd. He picked up three pars on the back nine and six bogies for 21 points but lost out to Frankie on the countback.

Graeme Dickson (+1) won the gross prize thanks to level par 70.

Graeme went out in two over par 37, dropping shots at the 1st, 4th, and 9th, picked up only one birdie at the 3rd.

On the back nine Graeme picked up birdies at the 10th, 11th and 17th, dropping one shot at the last for a two under 33.

Colin Hewitt continued the recent trend of hole-in-ones at Dunmurry when he holed out at the par three 3rd hole.
