With a place in the quarter finals at stake this was always going to be tight match and one that needed a good perforance if Rockmount were to progress.

Playing foursomes, the first pair out were father and son duo William and Reece Wilson. Both played some fine golf and secured a good three and two win.

In the second match, Colin McClelland and Kenny Craig could do nothing to prevent the Carnlea pair winning six and five.

Rockmount’s biggest win came from new pair Leslie Anderson and Colin Marshall, who combined excellently to secure a good six and four win.

The fourth pair was Kevin Smylie and Maurice Wilkinson. Their match was a very competitive one, which was destined to go to the wire.

The last pair was acting team captain Frank Wallace and Roy Cole. In the early stages there was nothing in the match until Frank and Roy won three holes in a row from the fifth to bring them four ahead after nine. They maintained the four hole advantage, closing out their match on the 15th.

The result of the fourth match, Kevin and Mo, was no longer an issue but they were two up with two holes to play when the results of the other matches allowed them to be called in.

Saturday Competition

The sun was shining at Rockmount for summer solstice day on Saturday 21 June, when the McNeill Hotelware sponsored four ball better ball competition was well supported and the scoring particularly good.

Following on his good win in the Pierce Purcell, William Wilson combined with another son Ryan to win by four points from nearest challengers Frank Wallace and David Harrison.

William and Ryan scored 47 points and Frank and David scored 43 points, edging out Martin Sloan and John Curley on countback. Fourth place to Stephen Gilmore and Stephen Clarke while Gerry McSorley and Tony Kennedy were fifth with 41 points.
