Garvey stage late winning surge to secure six points

Lisnagarvey staged a late winning surge to get home by eight shots and take six points away to Lurgan in NIBA Division One on Tuesday night.

They were four shots down at ten ends and and six behind at 15 ends, thanks mainly to Ivan Craig taking a good early lead, but there were big finishes from Keith Morrison and Noel Graham.

Ivan Craig was 14-2 up at the fifth and 17-8 at the tenth. Garvey led 26-14 with six ends left and went on to win by shots.

Down 3-4 at the fifth and 8-10 at the tenth Keith Morrison was still down 12-13 at 15 ends, but finished with two, three, one, one, four to win by nine shots.

At the fifth Neil Mulholland was 8-6 ahead, but dropped five shots over the next five ends and was 10-24 down at 15 ends before losing by 13 shots.

Noel Graham dropped eight shots without scoring over the opening five ends and was 5-13 down at the tenth. Garvey were 14-17 adrift at 15 ends, but three at the last end gave them a one shot win.

Lisnagarvey received a big boost in the NIWBA Senior League when they beat Ward Park by 20 shots and took all seven points.

At 11 ends Iris Scott was 7-11 down, but she came back with three doubles and a four. Garvey dropped one, one two at the closing ends but still won by two shots.

Kay McCully started with two, three and added two more threes to lead 17-9 at 12 ends. Garvey were 20-10 up at 15 ends and went on to win by seven shots.

Down 0-9 at the fifth and 6-15 at 11 ends Joyce Lyness lifted five and four to come back to 16-17 at 15 ends. Garvey were 16-18 down with two ends to play but lifted one, two to win by a shot.

In a low scoiring start Vera McCourt was 6-5 ahead at the tenth but 7-8 down at 14 ends. Garvey lifted a four dropped a double and finished with five fopur to win by ten shots.

There were almost 50 at the latest Summer Indoor Bowling Tournament organised by Seymour Street Methodist club.

The winners were Elizabeth Lyness and Andrew Harvey. The tournaments continue each Monday night from 7.30 p.m. in the Church hall. Everyone welcome.
