Scouse about that? Moira Liverpool fans to play at Anfield

Members of 1st Moira Liverpool Supporters Club could not believe their luck when they were informed they had been selected for the international event which will be recorded by Liverpool FC TV.

The chance of a lifetime came about after club secretary Michael Bradley replied to an email from the club seeking entries to the competition.

“We could not believe it when we got word we had won a place,” explained Gary Dickson a member of the Moira fan club and son of Linfield’s legendry striker Tommy ‘The Duke of Windsor’ Dickson.

“It is quite an international event with teams coming from the likes of Japan, Dubia, New York and Denmark. There are 36 teams in total and we have split into three 12 team sessions. After the warm-up and some skills coaching the five-a-sides begin.”

Gary and the Moira fans have been over to Anfield many times, the most recent was the Mersey derby with Everton last Sunday, but this will be something else. “I have been around the club on tours but this is special. To be going out to play a match, walking down those steps and up onto the pitch will have hairs standing on the back of my neck when you start to think about all the famous names that have done the same.

“It will be a great day no matter what the result and the good news is we are also allowed to bring up to 20 fans with us so the wives and girlfriends are also able to come along.”

The team will look the part thanks to a kit donated by Linfield director Stephen Dickson of Discount Blinds.

“Thanks to Stephen we are being kitted out and have gone that bit extra to have names and numbers on the shirts. No surprise my number is 10 just like my dad’s shirt when he was playing for the Blues.”

The eight man team includes: Michael Bradley, Gary Dickson, Neil McMullan, Paul Stirling, Barry White, Mark McCormick, Davy Clarke and Peter Martin.
