Belvoir FC II scored probably the shock win of the season when they beat Lambeg Rangers 5-4 on penalties in the first round of the Gordon Hanna Trophy.

Belvoir took a 3-0 half-time lead but Lambeg came back after the break with goals from Ryan Bowers, an own goal and Joe Gill who scored a penalty at the second attempt.

There was no further scoring in extra time and it was Belvoir who kept their nerve when it came to penalties, winning 5-4.

Sandy Row had a 7-1 win over Ballymacash YM II and Glaston hit ten without reply against Newtown Forest III. Jim Mullen helped himself to six of them, Alan McDonnell grabbed a hat-trick and Davy Hill got the other one.

Wee Whites

There were a few very important fixtures on the first Saturday of the New Year at the Lisburn Distillery Academy. With the U-13s, U-15s and U-17s all playing at the same time on the three Barbour pitches, the Wee Whites supporters were spoilt for choice.

The ultra competitive U-13 section got even closer at the top when the Whites lost out 2-0 in a very close encounter with local rivals Hillsborough, Arty Storey’s team are now in second place but with only two points separating the top five there is still a lot to play for.

The U-15s drew 2-2 in a derby game with Lisburn Youth and the U-17s progressed to the next round of the N.I.B.F.A cup with comfortable 4-1 victory over Southside Youth, Rhys Grainger, Ben White, Scott Hunter and Danny Hawe the goal scorers.

The U-12s put in a good performance against fourth place TTBS Juniors before going down 4-1 and a comfortable 6-1 win over Lower Maze saw the U-16s move to the top of the table in another close section were only two points separate first from fourth.

Lisburn Youth

U12

In a team full of outstanding performers, Ross Hunter deserves special mention, after the U12’s won the first piece of silverware on offer this season, successfully defending the trophy they won at U11 in an exciting game against Ballymena.

With playing conditions made difficult by terrible weather, Ross, who scored 4 goals in a 6-3 victory, ended up in an ambulance at Ballymacoss with hypothermia.

Thankfully Ross is okay now and the club look forward to seeing him back playing for the U12’′s soon.

Lisburn started well and were on the front foot from the first whistle. However, it was Ballymena who would strike first to go 1-0 up with more or less there first effort on target. Lisburn Youth’s management team would like to give a special mention and thanks to Kyle Gormley for keeping goals. Normally a centre half, Gormley volunteered to play in goal for the final to cover usual keeper Michael McEnhill who was on holiday.

Youth were quick to respond and would soon get their rewards with Hunter firing home the equaliser.

Hunter would soon score his second and not long before the half time whistle it was 3-1 after a super delivery from Oisin Barr the Ballymena defender put into his own net.

The second half began just as Youth didn’t want with Ballymena getting themselves right back in the match at 3-2.

They would get the two goal cushion again when Ross Hunter tapped home from close range for his hat-trick. Hunter would soon make it 5-2 with his fourth of the game.

Ballymena to their credit never let their heads drop and continued to battle to the end and with 10 minutes to go the game went to 5-3.

This kept giving Ballymena a lift ensuring Youth had to fight until the end.

The final goal of the game came with only 2 minutes to go. A super run by Adam Donnelly saw him beat 3 or 4 players before striking the post. The rebound was finished expertly by Barr to make it 6-3 and ensure the Shield was won.

Captain Jameson lifted the Shield to the delight of the squad.

U14

Lisburn Youth U14′’s started 2014 in perfect style by winning the Lisburn Shield Final.

Caoimhin McConnell and Ross Hull scored 2 goals apiece as the young lions of Lisburn came back from a goal down at half time.

In truth, the 14’′s didn’t deserve to be behind after having missed a series of chances.

Annagh rode the storm and just before half time they caught Lisburn napping.

It wasn’t long before Lisburn had their equaliser. A flowing move ended with the ball running free across the goal and McConnell was at the back post to cooly lift the ball over the on-rushing keeper.

Lisburn had the bit between their teeth now and a stunning move started with keeper Ryan Dowling who played out from the back and into Rhys Kelly in midfield who found Kyle Patton, Conall Smith took it from Patton, he found Luke Savage who played the ball into the feet of Ross Hull. Hull moved the ball from his right foot to his left and shot across the keeper into the bottom corner. Fantastic goal!

McConnell then made it 3 with another excellent finish before Hull scored another candidate for goal of the game, this one a brilliant individual effort. A great day for the U14′s as they started the year with a trophy.

U15

Lisburn Youth U-15’s and Shankill Youth produced a thrilling encounter in the Shield final.

The game finished 4-4 at full-time with Shankill lifting the trophy after a sudden-death penalty shoot-out.

Lisburn were ahead in the game on 4 occasions with goals from Ben Curran, Micheal Burns, Nathan McShane and captain James Thompson.

But credit to Shankill, they never gave up and that made for a pulsating match.

In their corresponding league fixture Shankill trounced Lisburn 6-0, so the Lisburn lads should hold their heads high after a tremendous effort and take positives into the league, in which they lie in 2nd position.

Well done to all players and special mention to all parents for their support.
