Appealing times in South Antrim League saga

Warren YM had appealed an earlier decision and were told on Monday night that this had been successful.

They drew 5-5 with Carrowdore YM in the final game of the season, but the point gained has now been turned into three, which brings them level with Ballymacash Rangers III at the top.

The sequence of events was roughly: Ballymacash were deducted three points by the League committee but this was rescinded by the IFA.

Ballymacash then appealed a decision concerning events at the match with Ballymacash YM III and this is currently being considered by the IFA committee.

Warren then received the decision they were to receive an extra two points which leaves them level with Rangers.

The final IFA decision will leave the League committee with a problem. Depending on events there could be a play-off and the question is: when would this be played?

It just gets more and more complicated!

South Antrim review of the season

Harry Allen looks back on the season in the South Antrim League.

Premier Division

1ST LISBURN: may have hoped for more, but they did finish two places clear of the bottom and close to a couple of teams above them.

BALLYMACASH YM: their best season to date, winning the League title, Ironside Cup and Supplementary Cup.

BELVOIR FC: their worst season so far and they always looked like finishing bottom with a win and a draw to their name.

BRANIEL YM: a good season in which they took the League title to a play-off and won the Gordon Hanna Trophy. Had a long winning run to force League play-off.

CLONDUFF YM: finishing four from the bottom, they may have hoped for something better, but it was their first season at the top.

FC UTD LISBURN: cock-a-hoop at finishing fourth in the League following promotion. Will hope to improve on this next time round.

GLASTON: took third place in the League but it was not one of their best seasons with a blip in the middle. Will look to do better.

LAMBEG RANGERS: finished second from bottom, had a bad start to the season but improved as time went on.

SANDY ROW: had hoped for a better season but were disappointed. Some consolation after finishing runners-up in the Supplementary Cup.

SOUTH ANTRIM: a fairly successful season and they finished mid-table, but earlier in the season they were looking at a higher finish.

WARREN YM: start with a bang, topping the table and reaching Ironside Cup final, but they never really got it together after that.

Division 1

BALLYMACASH YM II: a great season for them with an emphatic win in the Division 1 title race and they added the Supplementary Plate to this.

BELVOIR FC II: at one stage they appeared to do quite well but lost their way for a time to finish three from bottom.

BLOOMFIELD III: came good as the season went on and though finishing third in the League they finished with the runners-up prize in the Supplementary Plate.

BRANIEL YM II: in the early stages looked likely Division 1 champions, but the season finished poorly and they had to settle for second place in the League.

CLONDUFF YM II: a fairly good year, finishing fifth in the League, but they will hope for better things ahead.

COLIN VALLEY III: finished fourth in the League but they must have been happy enough, though quite a distance off the top three.

CREGAGH WANDERERS: finished second bottom and must have hoped for better things and will be looking at an improvement next time around.

FC UTD LISBURN II: one of the new boys to the Division and did pretty well, though they did lose the momentum towards the end of the season.

ORANGEFIELD OB III: would have hoped to do better than fourth from the bottom, but they faced the difficulty of being a third eleven.

VICTORIA ATHLETIC: finished bottom but enjoyed their season all the same and will hope for better times ahead.

Division 2

1ST LISBURN II: good first season to finish fourth and they must be happy about that.

BALLYMACASH RANGERS III: a double success, winning Division 2 and the Whiteside Memorial Cup.

They will hope to push on from there. That was how it seemed at one stage but this has all changed

BALLYMACASH YM III: a creditable first season to finish well clear of the bottom three.

CARROWDORE YM: a disappointing finish to their second season, but they were always pushing for the title only to just miss out.

CLONDUFF YM III: another new team who started well but will be happy enough with third from bottom finish.

GLENAVY III: a good start to the season but lost their way just a little later on. Will be happy with mid-table finish.

LAMBEG RANGERS II: another new team. They finished bottom but the spirit was always there and can improve.

MOIRA ALBION II: joint fourth place finish and runners-up in Whiteside Memorial Cup makes it a more than satisfying performance.

NEWTOWN FOREST III: finished second bottom, but their results improved from their first time entrants performances the previous year.

SOUTH ANTRIM II: a mixed season but they will be happy enough with their first year performance and hope to do better next time.

WARREN YM II: League leaders for much of the season before losing out in their final match.

Being awarded extra points could still help them. Will be pleased to move up a division next year.
