Firsts beaten by Holywood ladies despite fantastic performance

South Antrim Ladies Firsts hosted Holywood Firsts at Friends’ School pitches last Saturday.

The ladies knew this would be a very tough match as previous results have shown but the girls played a fantastic game, pushing the opposition from the moment the whistle went.

Ruth Young and Anna Dornan worked well at the front, ruthlessly attacking the opposition’s defence but unfortunately the girls could not convert even with the gallant effort from Jill Holley.

This match quickly became a high paced game and South Antrim’s defence was put under pressure but with solid performances from Emma Kay, Alison Marsden, Wendy Li, Zara Carson and excellent saves from Courtney Mills. Towards the end of the first half, Holywood finally broke the deadlock making it 1-0.

The ladies never gave up with Elaine Aiken working the midfield with Alannah Richardson and Jo Clarke trying to get the ball up field with tireless efforts.

Force

Unfortunately the force of Holywood was too strong and scored two very close goals resulting in a 3-0 win. It is a harsh result to swallow as the score line did not reflect how well the team played with fantastic substitutions from Alex Dugan and Rachel Sullivan but the girls will carry this experience for their next match.

A special mention to Lisburn Racquet’s Club for sponsoring the ladies home match this weekend and for hosting their Annual Table Quiz Fundraiser. Many thanks to everyone who attended and the support to the club.
