Delight as Ricky wins the Hanna Rose Bowl at Lisburn Golf Club

After the recent spell of good weather over 200 competitors had to endure a strong breeze and some very heavy showers.

One group reached the final tee without getting wet but got absolutely soaked while playing the par three.

Ricky had two ‘dings’ on the front nine when he failed to score at the 4th and 6th.

After accumulating 16 points he made a great start to the back nine with birdies at 11 and 12.

He dropped a stroke at 15 but finished with two pars for 22 points making a total of 38.

His second nine beat Adam Cooke (18) and Colin Hill (10) on count-back.

Colin played steadily for two halves of 19 points.

After a poor start Adam had a ‘purple patch’ starting at the 5th when he went 3,3,4 for 10 points which helped to give him 18 for the front nine.

Despite a ‘ding’ at 11 he finished with two pars for six points and a back nine total of 20.

Four players finished with 37 points: Stephen Wilkinson (15), Michael Stewart (6), Chris Moore (18) and Gary Morrow (5).

Keith Sterritt (16) led the field after the front nine with 22 points. He finished with a par three for a total of 36.

Nobody could match the winner’s 22 points on the back nine.

Not surprisingly in the difficult conditions only 17 competitors registered birdie twos.

Due to the heavy rain the course was closed on Wednesday for the Stableford competition.

Juveniles: 1st Harry Scott (14) 35pts, 2nd Conor Lyness (18) 34pts, 3rd Max Gillespie (22) 32pts.

As expected, Lisburn defeated Donegal to reach the last eight of the competition.

After winning 5 – 0 at home the Lisburn team played well in a strong breeze to win four close matches on the links course.

David McAleenan played well but lost the top match on the 16th green.

Irish champions Lisburn begin the defence of their Junior Foursomes title on Saturday with the qualifying competition being held on their own course.
