Defeat for South Fifths

Last Friday night saw the South men’s Fifths travel to Mossley hoping to recapture some of the early season form that made them strangers to defeat. It was not to be however, as they fell to a tightly contested 3-2 defeat.

The game started brightly enough with the South men dominating the initial exchanges. It came as a shock when Mossley managed to sneak a goal on the counter-attack. Despite some resilient defending, Mossley scored again to leave South chasing a two goal deficit going into half time.

The second half saw a rejuvenated South determined to take the game to the opposition. The unrelenting pressure eventually paid off as Neil Wilson thundered home a superbly worked short corner routine. South were on the ascendency but yet again were undone with a third Mossley goal. If anything the third goal only spurred South on when it led to the moment of the match as Gaz Allstar audaciously flicked the ball on to Chris Black who with plenty to do pulled out an improvised finish to slot past a stunned Mossley keeper.

Unfortunately the score remained the same but the Fifths can take plenty of encouragement from their performance.
