Rain ruins Derriaghy opener

DERRIAGHY Cricket Club failed to get their NCU Ulster Bank League 1 programme under way last Saturday due to heavy rain during the week which left the ground unplayable. They must now rearrange their game against Carrick inside the next 3 weeks. The club are hoping for better luck this Saturday when they are due to travel to The Factory ground to face Donaghcloney in a game that has a 1pm start.

The club’s new professional Yogesh Takawale is now on board and has begun coaching in local schools as well as at club youth sessions on a Monday evening. Yogesh is now looking forward to showing his talents on the playing side.

One Derriaghy side did get their season started on Saturday and that was the 3rd XI who recorded a fine 9 wicket win away to Civil Service North at Stormont. The home side elected to bat first and were shot out for 72 with Stuart McAllister, Aaron Kinnan and Travis Morehead among the wickets. In reply new signing Stephen Gorman hit a fluent 45 not out as the Queensway men romped home with loads of overs to spare.
