The team played extemely well and ultimately secured a final place with a fine 5 wicket victory.

Waringstown skipper Stuart Kidd won the toss and elected to bat, a decision that suited Lisburn skipper Ricky Finlay well as he was going to bowl.

Opening the bowling for Lisburn were Calum Irvine and Graeme Browne.

Irvine bowled sharply and accurately and his 6 over spell yeilded a wicket, with Morgan Topping being trapped LBW for 8.

Browne bowled the second over and with his first ball enticed a loose shot from Waite who edged the ball into the safe hands of stand in wicket keeper Jonny Ritchie.

Browne continued to bowl tightly and finished up with the excellent figures of 2-20 in his overs.

The introduction of young David Whitten, playing in his first game for the 2s bowled superbly and picked up the vital wicket of Wright with a slower ball bowling him for 17.

Finlay was afforded the luxury of having his three senior bowlers in the form of Derek Suffern, Carl Williams and Neil Doak at his disposal, and they didn’t disappoint him or the team.

Accuracy, line and length were very much to the fore and the trio strangled the middle and lower order, not allowing Waringstown to up the scoring rate.

Doak finished with the figues of 4-35, Williams 1-24 and Suffern 1-30.

The Lisburn fielding was also of the highest order epitimised by 2 superb catches taken by Carl Willaims and Calum Irvine.

The Waringstown innings closed on a well below par 143.

After an excellent tea, the Lisburn innings began with the usual partnership of Ricky Finlay and Michael Turkington.

With the score at 10, Finlay was run out bringing Glenn Halliday to the wicket.

Halliday continued to impress with the bat, as he has done all season, and he and Turkington took the score to 82 before Halliday was caught by A Mitchell off J Mitchell for 39.

Turkington continued to bat sensibly, nudging singles and putting away the bad ball and frustrate the Waringstown bowlers, showing his experience of 30+ years at senior cricket.

Doak and Browne came and went quickly off the bowling of Kidd and when Turkington was dismissed there was a slight nervousness that Lisburn might blow their chances of making the cup final.

However Jonny Ritchie and Gav Magill remained calm and steered the team across the finishing line.

Waringstown didn’t help themselves by bowling over 40 extras.

So a superb win for the lads and sets up a Junior Cup Final vs Cliftonville CC at Moylena on 6th August.
