However, the win was not as easy as the score suggests as the home side were in trouble at 88 for 5 as they chased down the 214 required.

It took an unbroken stand of 126 between Andrew Kenny (49 no) and Rob Cumins (70 no) that saw them home with nearly 10 overs to spare.

Earlier the visitors having endured a near five hour journey up made first use of the beautiful Queensway pitch.

They were in early trouble at 18 for 3 and the next 15 overs saw them lose wickets regularly to slump to 90 for 8 - Peter Bell picking up 4 for 34 in his spell.

Rather than just roll over number 7 Zuhir Shah decided to put on a big hitting display clubbing 8 x 6s and 7 x 4s in an innings of 112 which saw his team to 213 all out.

Craig Lewis picked up 3 for 42.

None of the home side top order apart from Kaushik Aphale (43), performed well and at 88 for 5 appeared to be on their way out of the competition.

On Sunday they play Killyclooney in the Ulster Shield, a game that was postponed from last week following the tragic death of a young ‘Clooney player in a car accident.

In youth games the Under 11s progressed to the next round of the Quoile cup with a nail biting win over CIYMS.

With the scores level going into the final delivery the CI batsman attempted a run but failed to make his ground, being run out, thus giving Derriaghy victory by virtue of losing fewer wickets.
