Successful season for Canal Boxing Academy
The start of the new boxing season has been more than good, so far, to Canal Boxing Academy as they have lifted no fewer than nine titles since August.
Jack Moore (75kg) got the club off to a good start by lifting the Novice Co Antrim and Novice Ulster Intermediate Championships with six wins in total.
Sean Montgomery (67kg) kept the trend going by winning the Co Antrim and Ulster Championships with eight fights to the finals and going on to lift his fifth title for the club.
Up next was world number three at youth level, Kurt Walker (56kg) as he went on to win the Antrim and Ulster Championships by stopping Townland boxer Emmett Maginn.
Jason McKay also won his Ulster Championship by getting a walkover in the 51kg class.
On to the younger ones, they have proven to be a force to be reckoned with.
Young Patrick Doran (62kg) won all three of his fights in the recent Ulster Championship at Braid Boxing Club in ballymena.
Chloe Fleck also got a walkover to become champion in the girls 52kg.
Stephen McCarragher (50kg) won the Ulster Championship in Tyholland with his stable companion, winning two fights to the final but unfortunatley had to withdraw from the final unwell.
All in all the club have been busy and will be again tonight (friday) as two of their gighters Kurt Walker and Jason McKay are in action.
They have reached the All-Ireland Intermediate Finals in Dublin. These fights will be shown on TG4.
The club wishes both lads the best of luck.
