Athlete of the Year award for Lisburn swimmer Bethany

BETHANY Carson has been voted the Swim Ireland Club Athlete of the Year.

The Lisburn swimmer is reaping the rewards in what has been a hectic season travelling.

Bethany competed at her first World Cup in October, where she qualified for European Short Course Championships. She then went on to compete in the Dutch LC Nationals in Eindhoven in December, where she was delighted to get seven PBs, then went straight to European Short Course Championships where she got three PBs and an Ulster record in the 100 butterfly

Bethany then got the opportunity to go to Florida on a training camp with Peter Banks, Swim Ireland’s High Performance Director, for two weeks over New Year, this was a great experience to work with Peter and Beth also got to train with Peter’s past swimmer and Olympic Champion Brooke Bennett!

After this training camp, Bethany went to the Luxembourg Euro meet in January where she achieved four PBs and another Ulster record in the 100 butterfly. In February, she had the Irish National Championships and Olympic Trials 2012 in Dublin, where she also achieved four PBs and an Ulster and Irish record in the 100 butterfly, breaking Michelle Smith’s (Irish Olympian) previous 16 year old record. This was Beth’s first individual Irish record which she was delighted to get.

Now, she is just back from another training camp with Peter Banks in Florida over Easter which will set her up for this weekend in Dublin where she will be competing for Ireland in the Celtic Tri Nations and Dave McCullagh Memorial Meet.
