A lack of cutting edge costs South Antrim

All of the damage to South Antrim’s hopes were done in the first half of this game in which College Hill showed much more determination and resolve.

The Lisburn team never got started in the first half and uncharacteristically displayed a lack of desire which deservedly led to an opening goal from the home side due to poor marking in defence.

Despite this early warning, South could not raise their game to the level required to consistently worry the home defence.

The occasional South attack tended to fizzle-out in the opposition half due to poor decision making with the final pass.

The College Hill second goal was a comedy of errors when a shot, adjudged to be a cross from outside the circle, was allowed to roll unimpeded into the South goal. The half ended with South all at sea and 2 nil down.

The second half was a major improvement for South and one which they dominated from start to finish without being able to find the net.

Four penalty corners were squandered and some promising attacking play on the right involving Charis Seeds and Ruth Young went unrewarded.

In the middle of the pitch, Hayley Laverty was prompting the South forwards with Alannah Richardson the most lively for South, but the goal that was probably deserved refused to come.

In the end despite lots of possession, South lacked a cutting edge in the circle and will have to put this performance down to a bad day at the office.
