The funniest fan responses to Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Potterheads aren't exactly known for keeping their opinions to themselves.

The loyal fans of the Harry Potter universe are renowned for fiercely defending the work of JK Rowling, engineering absurd - but imaginative - fan theories and publicly declaring their love for characters and creatures alike.

Following the release of the trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the Harry Potter fandom have continued to live up to this reputation, sounding off opinions about casting, plotlines - typically through the medium of memes and GIFs.

The results are hilarious and magical.

Young Dumbledore's got style

The casting of Jude Law as a young Dumbledore was met with skepticism by some fans when the news was released in April last year.

Judging by reaction on Twitter, however, first impressions of Law have been favourable.

One Tweeter used the words of Kingsley Shacklebolt to praise the young Dumbledore's fashion.

@messymensch revealed they had been one over by the trailer - and Jude Law.

Me, irritated at Harry Potter-related things + people lately: I'm not watching that next movie.Me, after Jude Law opens mouth in trailer: I'll be there.

Another fan was less subtle in their adoration for Jude Law.

@_ken91 was less impressed by Law's conventional look.

In the books, wizards had no clue how to dress like muggles and yet here’s Jude Law as Dumdledore in an outfit he pulled straight outta Zara. pic.twitter.com/8tY0aRVqep

'I'm going back to Hogwarts!'

While Jude Law's Young Dumbledore was on the end of fans adulation, the undoubted star of the trailer was Hogwarts.

One fan admitted they were reduced to tears by the site of the wizarding school.

i cried a little when i saw Hogwarts. AFTER ALL THIS TIME #FantasticBeasts

@HogwartsLogic on the other hand prepared to return to Hogwarts.

Me: I'm not sure I'm even that excited for #FantasticBeasts Me: *watches first two seconds of trailer* Me: PACK MY TRUNK AND CALL ME HARRY I'M GOING BACK TO HOGWARTS BITCHES

One user could only express themselves through GIFs.

My Reaction When Hogwarts Showed Up At The Beginning 😭😭😭❤#FantasticBeasts pic.twitter.com/6jed88skAV

Some however were outraged by an apparent continuity error in the trailer. Characters could be seen apparating into the grounds of Hogwarts - a feat impossible in the Harry Potter books.

Fans were nonplussed.

CURRENTLY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOWWW THEY ARE ABLE TO APPARATE ON HOGWARTS GROUNDS WOZZDISS???!! #FantasticBeasts pic.twitter.com/bJUvHpEFUp

One resorted to tweeting Hermione Granger.

"You can't Apparate inside the Hogwarts grounds, how often do I have to tell you?" - Hermione Granger #CrimesOfGrindelwald #FantasticBeasts pic.twitter.com/p14YeOjfsI

— The Leaky Cauldron (@leaky) March 13, 2018

Measured responses were hard to come by.

Also WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK YOU CANNOT APPARATE ONTO HOGWARTS GROUNDS YOU EVIL LITTLE COCKROACHES #FantasticBeasts

— emotional wreck™️ (@ddlywckmorm) March 13, 2018

Apparating onto Hogwarts Grounds?! What’s next?? Post on Sundays???

— Ron Weasley (@MrRonaldWeasley) March 14, 2018

@SharonKehoe managed to quell the mayhem when she noted that anti-apparition charms could be lifted.

FYI the current Hogwarts Headmaster can lift the Anti-Apparition Charm. For instance, in HBP Chapter 18 when the students practiced for their Apparition tests in the Great Hall. #FantasticBeasts pic.twitter.com/Ajdg8UwEyl

Johnny Depp isn't winning fans over

The most divisive element of the first instalment of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was the appearance of Johnny Depp as notorious wizard Gellert Grindelwald.

Some were hoping for the controversial actor to be replaced.

Is it because he's been replaced in the entirety by an actor who isn't Johnny Depp? If not, no thanks. https://t.co/oTP4DqobCT

Tweeter Kate Leth suggests that film producers were aware that they had made a misstep.

I like that they put out the Crimes of Grindelwald trailer and it literally contains 0.2 seconds of Johnny Depp. Like, they know. And they did it anyway

— Kate Leth 🦇✨🌈 (@kateleth) March 13, 2018

@yeblod poked fun at Depp's character's pallied complexion.

did they forget to do Johnny Depp's makeup pic.twitter.com/E7upr13OXa

And finally, Ira Madison III summed up the thoughts of most Potterheads when he made this recommendation to filmmakers.

Shove Johnny Depp into it https://t.co/hHPHYIJLKe
