Young people honoured at 
Cinemagic awards gala

SERC Lisburn student Zak Campbell was presented with the award for most promising sports presenter after participating in a Cinemagic sports broadcasting workshop.

Eileen Tracey from Lisburn won the Cinemagic Young Filmmaker of the Year in the Best Script/Story category for her film ‘The Secret Life of Marionettes’.

Isaac Gibson from Annahilt was awarded most promising film music composer in the Mark Gordon Talent Lab masterclasses.

The young people who took part in this year’s Cinemagic Festival were treated to a celebratory event, hosted by Marc Mallet, where the winning films of the festival were announced, young talent from masterclasses awarded and the achievement of young filmmakers were applauded.

500 invited guests, including the Lord Mayor of Belfast Máirtín Ó Muilleoir, along with BAFTA Award-winning film producer, Iain Smith OBE, who received a lifetime achievement award from Cinemagic, enjoyed a look back at the year’s film projects and the October and November festival programmes which were action packed with the very best films from around the world, educational workshops, masterclasses and industry discussions.

Other industry professionals who participated in the awards ceremony and hosted festival workshops included Oscar winning producer of The King’s Speech, Gareth Ellis Unwin, director Tony Mitchell (The Bible, Atlantis, Primeval), screenwriter Ryan Rowe (Tinkerbell Secret of the Wings, The Pirate Fairy), Northern Ireland actors Bronagh Waugh, Niamh McGrady, Ben Peel (most recently seen in BBC NI drama The Fall) and young actor Art Parkinson (Dracula Untold, Game of Thrones) who received Cinemagic’s rising star award.

The winning films of the festival were announced by a panel of CineSeekers and CineFocus film critics, who watched and reviewed the ‘in competition’ films over the November.
