Work starts on Saintfield Road

Work on a new £310,000 road improvement scheme on the Saintfield Road is set to begin this Monday, June 16.

Improvements, including resurfacing between B6 Saintfield Road and Clougher Road, are expected to be complete by August 8.

Works will take place between 9.30am and 4.00pm daily however the scheme will ease from July 11 to July 28.

Danny Kennedy said: “This is a significant investment and will increase the lifespan of the road and greatly improve the strength and ride quality of the carriageway along this busy commuter route.”

Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction and evening and overnight closures will also be necessary between 8pm and 6am.

Information signs will be in place to advise drivers of restrictions and closures.

During the final stages of the improvements there will be road closures on four consecutive Sundays from 6.00am to 6.00pm.

The Department has planned the improvements and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience to the public, however, drivers should expect delays and are advised to leave additional time when travelling in the area.
