Upgraded pedestrian level crossing for Dunmurry

TRANSLINK NI Railways has marked the final stages of its upgrade work at Meetinghouse Lane pedestrian level crossing in Dunmurry.

The work to replace the gates at the Meetinghouse Lane pedestrian level crossing with a new automated lifting barrier system began in February 2012.

The new system is designed to provide increased accessibility for pedestrians with prams and people using mobility devices, as they will no longer have to manually operate the gates.

Gerard McAtarsney, Route Manager, NI Railways explained: “The safety of our employees, passengers and members of local communities is a key priority for Translink NI Railways.

“In particular, the responsible use of pedestrian railway level crossings is essential to maintain public safety. We will be delivering information leaflets to local residents and would encourage them to read this leaflet and share the information with their families and friends.

“We would like to thank local residents for their patience while we carried out this work,” he concluded.

The new crossing is currently undergoing some final testing and it is expected to be fully operational by the end of June.
