There was great sadness in Lisburn when it was announced on Friday (April 9) that Prince Philip had passed away.

The Duke of Edinburgh was a frequent visitor to Lisburn, and especially to Hillsborough Castle over the years.

Lagan Valley MP Sir Jeffrey Donaldson paid tribute to the Queen’s Consort following the announcement by the Royal Family.

“It is very sad news that Prince Philip has passed, just a few weeks short of his 100th birthday,” said Sir Jeffrey.

“My thoughts and prayers are with our Sovereign Queen Elizabeth and all the members of the Royal Family at this time.

“Prince Philip served this nation with courage and distinction in both war and peace and his memory will live on in the hearts of many people.

“I will be attending Parliament on Tuesday and will join in the tributes being paid to Prince Philip to thank him for his contribution to our nation that he made in almost a century of devotion to the country and to the Royal Family.”
