Tragic motorcyclist a stalwart of Derriaghy Cricket Club

A motorcyclist who died following a weekend road collision has been praised for his services to Derriaghy Cricket Club over four decades.

David Gerard Edwards was riding a Ducati motorbike when he was involved in a collision with a JCB telehandler in the Moira area on Saturday.

The incident occurred on the Lany Road around 3.20pm on Saturday.

The 60-year-old, from the Aghalee area, is said to have been pronounced dead at the scene.

n a social media message, Derriaghy Cricket Club said everyone at the club was saddened to hear the news of the collision.

“Davy served the club for over 40 years as player, 4th XI captain, youth coach, as well representing the club for a time on the NCU Management Committee. Our sincerest condolences are with his family circle,” the message said.

PSNI Sergeant Mackenzie said: “At around 3.20pm on Saturday afternoon, it was reported that a yellow JCB telehandler vehicle and a Red Ducati motorbike were involved in the collision.

“The motorcyclist sadly passed away at the scene following the incident.

“Enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or why may have dash-cam footage available, to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1185 of 03/04/21.”
