Traffic chaos near airport expected

Police are warning motorists who will be travelling around the International Airport to expect delays from June 14 to 19 during the G8 Summit that takes place at the Lough Erne Golf Resort in Fermanagh.

Senior security officers are urging motorists who are planning to travel through Antrim, Crumlin, Templepatrick, Killead or Aldergrove to leave plenty of time and plan their journey ahead.

D District Commander Chief Superintendent Henry Irvine, officer in charge of the security operation, said: “As a number of G8 world leaders and their delegations will enter Northern Ireland via Aldergrove it is essential that these sites along with the surrounding routes and land are kept secure.

“Over recent weeks we have implemented a security operation and have been steadily increasing our presence in the area.” Vehicle checkpoints will mean motorists may face delays and anyone attending hospital appointments are advised to leave more time to their journey.
