Traffic calming measures move a step closer

LAGAN Valley MLA Edwin Poots has welcomed news that traffic calming measures for Aghalee village have moved a step closer.

Mr Poots said that following a meeting with Roads Service when an in-depth survey conducted with the whole village has been handed over, Roads Service had carried out two further traffic surveys in the village.

“The assessments indicate that this area is of sufficient priority to be considered for inclusion in their traffic calming programme” Mr Poots said.

Roads Service said the works programme for the 2012/13 financial year has been finalised, but Aghalee will be considered for future programmes depending on the availability of funding at that time.

Speaking on the matter Councillor James Tinsley said; “We will continue to lobby the Road Service to ensure that Aghalee Village remains on the priority list for the traffic calming measures in the next financial year.”
