On Tuesday, December 3, police received a report at approximately 9.20pm that a house had been burgled by up to five masked men. A sum of money and some documents were taken.

Three of the men wore caps, masks and gardening gloves and are all believed to have been aged in their 20s.

Jonathan Craig MLA, a member of the Policing Board condemned the break-in.

He said: “This recent attack on our elderly community is just one of a series of sickening robberies that have taken place in the Lisburn area where a well organised gang has targeted and robbed defenceless elderly people.

“I would appeal to the wider public who may have noticed or seen people acting suspiciously to give any information to the PSNI.

“Clearly, this is an orchestrated campaign by ruthless individuals coming up to the Christmas period and I would urge the whole community to be vigilant and to be aware of our elderly neighbours and family members.“

Mr Craig added: “As a member of the Northern Ireland Policing Board and a local MLA for the area, I am absolutely disgusted that these type of attacks are taking place and I am calling on the PSNI to use every available resource to catch these criminals that are causing so much distress and mayhem and I would call on the Courts that when these criminals are caught, that they will face lengthy jail terms.”

Anyone with any information about this incident or who saw any suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact CID in Lisburn Police Station on 0845 600 8000. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
