Thomas Cook welcomes young jet-setters

THE Lisburn branch of Thomas Cook welcomed some very special visitors recently as local pupils from Riverdale Primary School were given a special insight into the life of a travel agent.

P7 pupils at Riverdale Primary were tasked by Thomas Cook to get creative and interpret their own artistic impression around the theme of ‘wonderful world’.

Colleagues Julie-Anne Kennedy and Karen Orr had visited the school on Friday March 23 to meet with pupils to discuss their travel project on India. Lucky pupils, whose artwork caught the eye of the Thomas Cook staff, were then chosen and given the chance to take over the branch - for one morning only - to find out what it takes to work as a travel consultant. They also won a special Easter egg and other goodies.

Lisburn branch manager, Kathy Martin, said: “We have been very impressed with the enthusiasm shown by the pupils and we are delighted to welcome the pupils into the branch.

“They may have holidayed themselves with their families, but were unaware of what is involved in arranging a holiday, from planning and budgeting to booking travel and arranging insurance.

“They will be learning a lot and we hope that they’ll consider working with us some day.”

Riverdale Primary School vice principal, Carol Sykes, said: “Our travel project has focused on the wonderful world around us, with a particular focus on India with its rich culture, as we really wanted the class to learn about travel beyond where they would usually go on holiday.

“They are really enjoying the project and it’s the perfect opportunity for them to learn about the wider world of work outside their school life, as well as learn valuable skills such as management and communication.

“They’ll also be having a lot of fun in the process.”
