Aaron Kerr, whose parents are both keen runners, have been bringing their teenage son to all their marathons across Ireland.

Aaron attends Parkview Special School and mum Sandra and dad David, known as Team Kerr, returned to the Wallace Park run at the weekend to present a jogging chair to Race Director, Beverly Reid.

Now disabled children or young people can walk or run in the 5K race each Saturday.

Sandra said, “Having a child with complex needs can often lead to isolation and running is a great way to be part of the community, whilst staying fit and healthy.

“The running chair that we have is brilliant and it has helped Aaron’s quality of life. It helps us all to enjoy the run.

“Aaron is out in the open and he no longer feels isolated.

“ We hope this jogging chair will benefit more families taking part in the Wallace Park run.”

The Kerr family began their running journey in 2014, and with the help of Wallace Park run, and local clubs including Dromore Athletics and Jog Lisburn they were able to purchase their first running chair, the Hoyt Running Chair, and have been competing in events ever since.

They run and push son Aaron in his custom-made running chair at events across Ireland.

Their last marathon was Waterford Viking Marathon, their 19th race, and they hope to complete 25 marathons by the end of the year.

Aaron’s Army was established to help families and provide joggers to enable them to participate in running/walking events.

Through the sale of Aaron’s Army Virtual Race medals and running buffs, this jogger was purchased and it is hoped that local families will benefit each week.
