Students get a taste of life in the armed forces

PUBLIC Services students from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) Lisburn and Bangor campuses attended the Armed Forces Job and Trades Fair at Kinnegar Barracks, Holywood earlier this month.

Students were invited to a ‘sneak preview’ of what was on offer before the doors were opened to the public. Those interested in a career in the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force had the opportunity to seek advice and find out about the full and part-time jobs available in the three services.

As well as finding out about the various bursary and scholarship schemes, career options and having the opportunity to speak to industry experts, students were also treated to a number of demonstrations and had the chance to see a range of weaponry, machinery and vehicles.

Helen Murphy, SERC Public Services Course Coordinator, explained: “The event was a great platform for our students to seek advice and get an insight into the many job opportunities available within public services. Students had the opportunity to speak to experts working within the military and to hear first-hand how the skills they are learning now will be used in practice in the future.”
