The Royal British Legion Women’s Section Hillsborough Branch is holding a short time of reflection at the village War Memorial from 7.10 to 7.30am on Friday July 1 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.
The service will include the reading of the names of those lost from the village, an Act of Remembrance and a time of silent reflection on the huge losses of the battle.
It will conclude at 7.30am with the sounding of a trench whistle. The bells of Hillsborough Parish Church will also ring to signify the exact time the Battle of the Somme commenced 100 years ago.
“Everyone is very welcome to attend the service,” a spokesperson said.
