Seconds out as Quinnputs up a fight for Glenavy boxing club

GLENAVY: Sinn Fein representative MaryKate Quinn has called on Lisburn Council to help Townland Boxing Club with much needed funding.

“Townland Boxing Club has never received funding from the Council since it was first established in 2008,” she said. “This club provides the community and surrounding areas with an outstanding facility and these need to be recognised.

“The coaches and volunteers involved should be commended for their dedication to providing a sporting facility for young people and adults alike,” she continued. “The number of young people using this club is constantly growing yet the facility is getting worse.

“This club is producing champions year after year at every age level, giving young people an interest, confidence and above all, a healthy lifestyle that should be encouraged.

“For the second time, I am inviting elected representatives from Lisburn Council to visit this boxing club to see for themselves the refurbishments and improvements that are needed to bring this club up to a suitable standard.

“I hope on viewing the facility they will carry out the necessary work in Council to provide the club with much needed funds,” she concluded.
