Salon raises money for NI Hospice

The activities, including donating proceeds from blow-dries and make overs to Hospice and a coffee morning ran by her mother Maureen Ferris, were organised as a tribute to the life of a beloved father and husband who passed away in September 2008. Seamus received support from the Hospice team and spent his last days at the old Hospice building on Somerton Road, Belfast.

When asked why she decided to support Northern Ireland Hospice, Roisin said; “My father was looked after at Somerton House and the care, comfort and compassion that he, and our entire family received from Northern Ireland Hospice at our time of need was second to none. We wanted to be able to help other families when they need it most.”

Deirdre Melly, Community Fundraiser for Northern Ireland Hospice added; “Thank you so much to Roisin, Maureen and everyone who supported them in raising such a great amount. A state of the art hospice facility is planned for the current site at Somerton Road but to make that happen we need to raise an extra £3 million. The new Hospice building will be the centre of excellence in palliative care, rolling out palliative care training to every trainee medical practitioner and care setting in Northern Ireland. We could not do this without the support of the local community. Seamus will be remembered on a special piece of artwork in the grounds of the Hospice when we reopen in 2015.”
