Resurgam Trust goes from strength to strength

Reaching out into the Old Warren community, and beyond into Lisburn North, Hillhall, Hilden and the Maze, the Trust is the umbrella for a number of groups aimed at helping local communities with education, training and businesses, as well as helping young people and families.

The current social enterprises within Resurgem include Laganside Business Services, LaganView Enterprise Centre, Lisburn Community Inns, Lisburn Community Self Build, New Horizons Credit Union and Premier Taxi Company.

Each enterprise provides employment for local people and all profit is reinvested back into the community.

The success of Resurgam has been so significant that it is now seen as an example of ‘best practice’ for community groups, with many travelling to Lisburn to learn from the experience of the local Trust.

Local young people have also benefitted from the Trust, particularly with the Lisburn South Streets Ahead project, as well as the various training and education projects on offer.

One young person who has been helped by Resurgam said: “I have been involved with the Resurgam youth provision from the age of 11. Through my involvement within the youth provision I have grown in confidence and maturity.

“The youth provision is an essential force within my local community.

“It helps to keep us young people off the street, by providing us with a safe environment where we can engage in recreational activities alongside our friends.”

The Trust has also had glowing reports from the PSNI and local politicians. Lagan Valley MP Jeffrey Donaldson, who is supportive of the Trust said: “I am proud to bring many visitors to view at first hand the work that is undertaken by the Resurgam Trust in our local communities and to hear of the benefits that this has brought for many local people.”
