Rejection of permission for dog kennels welcomed by Baird

Councillor James Baird has welcomed a decision by the Planning Service to reject permission for dog boarding kennels.

Planning application, which was submitted in 2012, had been sought for a change of use from a building contractors material and plant storage units to dog boarding kennels and grooming parlour. The application also included plans for internal alterations to the existing building and the provision of covered and uncovered external runs, as well as associated boundary treatments.

There were four letters of objection opposing the application lodged with the Planning Service, who proposed the scheme be rejected at a recent meeting of Lisburn City Council’s Planning Committee. In rejecting the application, the Planning Service said the proposals would harm the rural character of the local area, would be incompatible with the surround residential land use and would harm neighbouring properties by virtue of undue noise.

“This business has caused high levels of disturbance to the neighbours through the levels of noise,” said Mr Baird.
