In total the 2015 collectionr aised £52,078 for the charity.

The Royal British Legion in Lisburn would like to thank everyone who supported the annual fundraising campaign, either by volunteering their time or by donating to the charity.

The money raised by the Poppy Appeal helps to provide thousands of modern veterans, Service men, women and their families with vital advice and support.

Mr Ivan McCammon, Poppy Appeal Organiser for the Royal British Legion in Lisburn, offered his sincere thanks to everyone involved in the appeal.

“We were absolutely delighted with the amount that the people of Lisburn have raised this year,” he said. “This has been ourbiggest year to date, with a record breaking amount raised.

“I would like to particularly thank Sainsburys, Tesco and the Bow Street Mall in Lisburn for their suopport.

“I would also like to thank First Lisburn Presbyterian Church and the Rev John Brackenridge for hosting the 2015 Remembrance Day Service.

“Thanks must also go to Mr Raymond Corbett and his team for the substantial sum raised at their first Remembrance Festival, which was held in the Island Hall and was a great success.”

The Royal British Legion volunteers are hoping that the people of Lisburn will rally around for this years 2016 Poppy Appeal.

“This year will be the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme and we hope that the people of Lisburn will take this opportunity to dig deep and donate even more to the 2016 Poppy Appeal when it is launched. This will be a fitting tribute to the many thousands of soldiers who lost their lives during the Battle of the Somme, one o fthe bloodiest in human history, Many of those who fought and died came from Lisburn and the surrounding towns and villages, and it would be fantastic if we could honour them by making the 2016 appeal the biggest and most successful yet,”
