£9 million has been spent on roads in Lisburn

AN investment of £9million in Lisburn’s roads over the past fincial year has been commended by Transport Minister Danny Kennedy.

“Throughout Roads Service my Department invested over £100m in structural maintenance, improving the many miles of road infrastructure across Northern Ireland in the last financial year,” said Mr Kennedy.

“In particular in the Lisburn City Council area, despite ever increasing demands on budgets, Roads Service invested over £9m in delivering a comprehensive range of road schemes and maintenance work.

“Roads Service is using its available resources highly effectively and continues to deliver quality public services in the Lisburn area and across Northern Ireland.”

Highlighting resurfacing schemes, the Minister said: “Road users in Lisburn area have quickly realised the benefits of the investment by the Department with the progress of a number of schemes including extensive resurfacing at Dromara Road, Hillsborough, Redhill Road and Hillsborough Road, Dromara.”

Previewing the work scheduled in the area over the next year Mr Kennedy said: “Roads Service’s proposed programme for this financial year will see further resurfacing schemes progressed at Prince William Road roundabouts as well as Phase 1 at Dromara Village.”

Deputy Divisional Roads Manager Roy Spiers has outlined some of the other significant areas of work.

These include minor a works scheme to reduce left turn radius at the junction of the B101 Rock Road/Stoneyford Road in order to reduce the speed of vehicles turning left from the B101.

Road improvement schemes completed last year included the provision of a pedestrian Island at Harmony Hill/Belsize Road, a safer routes to school scheme at Dromara Primary School as well as a cycle lane completed at Wallace Avenue.
