‘Positive mood for Maze move’ at Balmoral Show

THE RUAS says members have given a positive response to plans to move the Balmoral Show to a new site at the Maze from next year.

RUAS President John Bamber, speaking after what is likely to be the final Show at its present site, said members had “grasped the commercial rationale behind our plans for the development of the famous Balmoral site and our proposed move to the Maze.”

Over the three days of the Show members were given the opportunity to view the plans and ask any questions they wished.

“While members maintain a strong sense of attachment to Balmoral, the general reaction to the detailed communication of our plans has been widely appreciative and supportive,” Mr Bamber continued.

“The overwhelming view was that we have reached a point where we have to think ahead, create a world-class show facility, and leave a monumental legacy for generations to come.”

Mr Bamber said most questions raised by members regarding the move to the Maze centred on financial issues related to the King’s Hall and practical issues such as car parking, access to the site, facilities for livestock and exhibitors and public transport.

“Such issues are entirely understandable, all of which we have been focusing on extensively throughout the latter phases of negotiation and we are confident we have solutions in place which will exceed many expectations,” he said.

Mr Bamber said he believed the next step is for the mood of positivity to be reflected in a strong majority vote at the Special Meeting on Tuesday June 12 at 7.00pm at the King’s Hall Conference Centre.

“I believe the strategy is sound in every sense; the RUAS Council has been unanimous in bringing the proposal forward and I trust that members will grasp the significance of their role in this decision making process, attend the meeting and cast their vote of support for the Legacy Project,” he concluded.
