Police '˜had to do up to 50mph to keep up' with speeder

When police followed a car through Lurgan they had to travel at speeds of up to 50mph to keep up with it.

Ian Burnie (43), Lime Grove, Lurgan, was fined £100 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for excess speed on June 27 this year.

He was also given three points. For failing to produce his driving licence he was fined £75.

The court heard that a police mobile patrol on Russell Drive in Lurgan were behind a car which was travelling in excess of the 30mph limit. They eventually spoke to the defendant when he turned into Lime Grove.

Burnie admitted he had been driving too fast and accepted a fixed penalty. But he failed to surrender his licence or pay the fine.

His solicitor said he accepted his speed was excessive.
