Pleas for action 
on busy junction

The junction at Hill Street and Laganbank Road, one of the main arterial routes into Lisburn, has been the scene of many accidents over the years, two of which have resulted in serious injury.

Hill Street residents fear that if action isn’t taken as a matter of urgency, there will be more accidents, with serious concern that there will be a fatality.

Ms McIlveen visited the busy junction this week to meet with members of the Hill Street Community Association, TransportNI and the police, as well as Lagan Valley MLA Jonathan Craig and Councillor Scott Carson.

Speaking after the visit Mr Craig said: “For many years the safety of the Laganbank Road junction at the top of Hill Street has been a major concerns for local residents and motorist and following a recent Hill Street Community Association AGM,

“I agreed to invite the Department of Regional Development Minister to see for herself this very busy junction, which has been the scene of several traffic collisions.

“While the issues surrounding this busy junction are not easily resolved the stark facts speak for themselves with eighteen injuries, two of which were serious.

“As a result of the positive meeting with the Minister, I welcome the commitment by Transport NI to further investigate this junction and have follow up meetings with the Community Association and myself.

“Can I thank Michelle for taking time to attend the meeting with local residents, it is great to now have a Minister for Regional Development that wants to be on the ground meeting local people and trying to resolve this type of issue.”
