Platform extension work to start at Hilden Train Station

TRANSLINK NI Railways is advising residents living near Hilden Train Station that platform extension work will take place from September 12 until mid-November.

The work is part of an overall £7 million platform extension project across the rail network that is required to accommodate longer trains and enable passengers to access all carriages safely.

Translink NI Railways Route Manager, Gerard McAtarsney said the work was an important part of Translink’s New Trains project: “The first of our 20 new Class 4000 trains are currently undergoing a period of rigorous testing and we are looking forward to them going into service this autumn on the Larne Line and across all lines from next year. This extension work is part of our longer term preparation to allow us to operate longer trains and increase onboard capacity for passengers where there is a requirement.”

“Some night work will be required to complete the operation, however we will endeavour to complete the work as quickly as possible and keep noise and disruption to a minimum.

“We are contacting local residents directly to alert them to the work and would ask for their patience and support as we work to improve local rail services,” concluded Mr McAtarsney.
