Planning permission granted for social housing in Dunmurry

PLANNING permission was granted for a social housing development in Dunmurry at the recent Planning Committee meeting.

The application by Oaklee Housing Development & Auto Farm was an amended proposal, which had previously included private apartments, which received 1,714 objections, and the apartments are no longer included in the proposal.

The development is at lands bound by Upper Dunmurry Lane, Stewartstown Road and Fortfield Mews at the junction of Old Colin Road roundabout, Dunmurry.

It will include 21 family dwellings, including associated landscaping, site access works and new domestic garage at 158 Upper Dunmurry Lane.

Welcoming the amended proposal, Lisburn Mayor Councillor Brian Heading said; “I am delighted that the application for the construction of social houses has been approved at Upper Dunmurry Lane.

“This is a positive step in addressing the shortage in social housing in our area and in relieving those in housing stress.

“It is also a great relief to the community that application for apartments on this site has been dropped as there were many concerns about this development from local residents.”
