Planners asked to reconsider Hillhall planning refusal

A LISBURN Councillor has called on the Planning Service to reconsider its refusal to grant permission for a housing development on the Hillhall Road.

The proposal for houses at Croft Farm on the Hillhall Road came before the Planning Committee of Lisburn City Council this week with a recommendation from the Planning Service that the application be refused.

However, Alderman Jim Dillon proposed it should be given further consideration by the Management Board. His proposal was seconded by Councillor Basil McCrea.

Stating their reasons for recommending a rejection of the application, the Planning Service said there were "no overiding reasons why this development is essential in this rural location."

However, Mr Dillon pointed out that the site was surrounded by development and that work had been carried out to plant 300 trees in the area, as well as ensuring services were installed on the site.

The Planning Service also highlighted the need for new vehicular access on a protected route in the area which would prejudice the "free flow of traffic and conditions of general safety."

The Planners continued their objections, stating the development would, if permitted, "harm the landscape setting of Lisburn by reason of its undue prominence. The development when considered in the context of existing development would, if permitted, result in a detrimental change to the rural character of this area of countryside by reason of urban sprawl."

Mr Dillon said he hoped the Management Board would, when reconsidering the application, "see the error of their ways."

He added: "I think this application should be granted. All I am asking for is a little equality and fairness."
