Phase Two of Wallace Park work starts

PHASE two of the refurbishments of Wallace Park is now underway and once complete will represent an investment of approximately £3 million by Lisburn City Council.

The Mayor of Lisburn, Alderman Paul Porter, speaking about the refurbishments, said: "Wallace Park has played an important role in the history of Lisburn by providing a meeting place for different generations to come together. The new state of the art play area opened in July marking the completion of Phase One of the works, at a cost of over 700,000. It is great news that Phase Two of the Council's capital investment in this historic park is now started."

Councillor David Archer, Chairman of the Council's Leisure Services Committee, said: "The Council began planning the refurbishment of Wallace Park over two years ago and it is fantastic that the final phase has commenced. The planned works for Phase Two include the construction of a new changing pavilion and an extension to the existing car park.

"The Planning Application submitted by the Council also covered improvement works to be undertaken to the general paths, railings and to improve areas that have become water logged by adding drainage. The Council also plans to repair the duck pond and install lighting in the main avenue."

Lisburn City Council appointed Earney Contracts Limited to complete Phase Two of the Wallace Park refurbishments.

It is anticipated that Phase Two works will be completed by late summer 2011.
