Petrol bomb hits child's bed

THE MOTHER of a two-year-old boy says her family is lucky to be alive after they escaped injury in a petrol bomb attack in Lagmore on Monday morning.

Ciara Chambers (18) was speaking after the petrol bomb smashed a window and landed on the bed where her child Kyle and partner slept, covering it in petrol.

It was the second attack on the house at Teeling View in the past week.

"Luckily the petrol bomb didn't ignite, if it had my child and my partner would have been killed," Ciara said. "The whole bed was covered in petrol. I was downstairs lying in the settee with all the lights on afraid to sleep because of the first time. I heard a squeal from my partner and he grabbed the child and put him into the other bed.

"Whoever did this are scumbags. They need to stop this before someone is killed. I would just to appeal to anyone doing this to stop before someone ends up dead."

On September 28 a petrol bomb landed 12 foot away from the house and it too failed to ignite The bottle was intact and taken away for examination.

Local Councillor Brian Heading described the attack as an 'reckless' and 'wanton' and said it was only by luck that no-one was seriously injured.

"It is total madness to target anyone in this violent way, least of all an innocent young child, and it is extremely lucky that no one was seriously injured as a result" he said.

"I appeal to people in the area to report anything suspicious that they may have seen on Sunday night or in the early hours of Monday morning, to the police so that those responsible can be taken off our streets and put behind bars."

Alliance MLA Trevor Lunn said he could not understand how anyone could commit such atrocities.

"This was an appalling attack and it is despicable that this family has been subjected to two attacks of this nature in the past week" he said.

"This family has been put through horrendous ordeals with these two attacks and I cannot understand how someone could bring themselves to carry out incidents like this.

"People want to live in peace, free from intimidation and those behind these attacks must be caught. Anyone with information on these incidents should contact police immediately."
