Pedestrians’issues to be addressed

Mr Givan explained that following a recent report into walking routes within Lisburn and correspondence to the Minister, Department of Regional Development officials have met with Imtac, the organisation involved and have given assurances around addressing many of the issues raised.

Mr Givan commented, “Having received this report on the walking routes within Lisburn I wrote to the Regional Development Minister, Danny Kennedy asking for consideration to be given to the report. I’m pleased to say that Roads Service’ response has been proactive in addressing concerns around accessibility for local disabled people throughout Lisburn on matters including provision of dropped kerbs, tactile paving and controlled crossings.”

“These measures are of great importance when it comes to allowing disabled individuals and groups to properly use the main walking routes around the centre of Lisburn,” he said.

Mr Givan continued: “I also welcome that attention has been drawn to the lack of pedestrian facilities leading to the railway station and that steps are being taken to address it.”
