Why did politicians not see this coming?

THE Ulster Star has to be congratulated for the front page headline in last week’s edition - ‘Bolt out of the blue as local school faces axe’.

As a past pupil who now has children attending Dunmurry High School, I have to say I am not only very angry about the potential closure of the school.

My anger is also directed at the public representatives in Lagan Valley as to how they can only say they were unaware of such a proposal, yet we learn the final decision lies with the minister for education.

May I suggest our public representatives, who have been elected by the people, give themselves a dressing down and in future ensure they keep their finger on the pulse of what is affecting the well being of their constituents.
