Supporters thanked

A GROUP of generous Hillsborough people recently decided to step out to raise money for our charity, Friends of The Cancer Centre, motivated by the loss of one of their good friends.

Led by Karen Hewitt, the group of locals organised a ‘Walk for Laverne’ around Hillsborough Forest in November. The charity also sent a local volunteer, Niki Edgars, and her husband to assist on the day. They raised £3,525.22 – a much welcomed donation, reflecting the generosity of people in the locality.

Funds donated to Friends of The Cancer Centre help us to make a real and meaningful difference to the lives of thousands of cancer patients and their families across Northern Ireland, providing the latest medical equipment to help with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and funding specialist medical posts and research. Friends’ funding is always directed towards projects and services which are outside and in addition to the provision already made by the Health Service, responding to needs highlighted by the Cancer Centre’s expert medical staff.

We really appreciate the efforts of our enthusiastic supporters and volunteers. Karen and her friends have proven to be effective and dedicated fund raisers, and have a tremendous and admirable sense of purpose. These truly are ‘Friends’ of the Cancer Centre.
