Reader grateful Maze stadium never happened

INTERESTING view expressed by the Ulster Star on the Northern Ireland team and their fans. I doubt there are any football supporters that were ‘vehemently’ opposed to the Maze stadium that are now reflecting ruefully on what might have been. You state that the team could be looking forward to a new start in a truly magnificent stadium. Well they are, a wonderfully revamped 20,000 capacity Windsor Park. A stadium the perfect size for football’s needs, in the country’s capital with all the infrastructure required already in place, a stadium where the fans will be close to the action, a stadium which can host cup finals and other events without the spectators rattling around in a half empty bowl. Your assumptions on how a Maze located stadium would have sustained the IFA with money to spend on grassroots is entirely based on Northern Ireland games selling out. Something that rarely happens.

I for one am glad the Maze stadium project never came to fruition.
